Repentance From Dead Works
There are Dead Works and There are Living Works.
I. DEFINITION OF REPENT
A. G-dly Sorrow -- II Corinthians 7:10
Repent: 3341 - metanoia (met-an-oy-ah) reversal of decision;
to change ones mind

- (met-an-o-eh-o) to think differently or afterwards, to reconsider

(observe);
to comprehend, heed; to perceive;

B. Sorrow of the World -- II
Corinthians 7:10
Repented: 3338 - metamellomai (met-am-el-lom-ahee) to care
afterwards; to regret; (because of consequences)

II. TRUE REPENTANCE:
Luke 15:11-32
A. New Testament: To change ones mind; not an emotion, but a
decision. Many associate repentance
with a strong emotion or shedding of tears. Others
associate it with some special religious rite and ordinances. This is PENANCE.
B. Old Testament: To turn; to turn back; to return. Therefore, putting New Testament and Old Testament
together, we have an inner change of mind, resulting in an outward turning back (to move
in a completely new direction).
III. REPENT AND BELIEVE:
Mark 1:15
A. John the Baptist: Mark 1:3,4 -- Repent & Believe
B. Yeshua HaMashiach: Mark 1:15 -- Repent & Believe
The Order -- Repent,
then Faith (Hebrews 6:1)
IV. FRUIT OF REPENTANCE:
Mattityahu (Matthew) 3:1-12
A. Fruit: Answerable to amendment of life
1. Carefulness: 4710 - speed,
eagerness, earnest
2. Clearing of oneself:
627 - apology, plea
3. Indignation: 24 - greatly afflicted
4. Fear: 5401

5. Vehement desire:
1972 - longing for; to crave
6. Zeal: 2205
- fervent heat
7. Revenge: 1557
- vindication, retribution
